Why are some spaces not searchable in the map?

Learn why some spaces are not searchable/findable on the occupancy map and how to fix it

When searching the map, you may experience that some spaces are not visible.

In short, any spaces that do not belong to a department is not searchable in the map.

With the way the search engine is currently setup, it only accounts for spaces (of all space types) that belong to/ are in a Department. This means that if a space is not in a Space group and subsequently not in a Department, it will not appear in the map search results. This includes the real-time map and when searching the booking map.

While we realise this is not an ideal state, and work on improving this feature, we can recommend a quick fix to avoid this issue.

Quick fix

To avoid this issue, the solution is quite simple, simply create a Space Group and subsequently Department with all your Spaces that aren't currently in one.

Usually we recommend having an "All Spaces" Space Group and "Everyone & Everything" Department with "Everyone" as a User Group. You can moreover setup a rule that any new users will be automatically added to this User Group and therefore to the Department.

If you have spaces that aren't bookable and don't belong to a Department that you still want to search for, you don't have to worry. A spaces "Non-bookable" state, setup either in its Booking settings or in the Map Editor, is not affected by the Department booking rules.
